Description

These fine antique English sterling silver sugar tongs were crafted in London between 1772 and 1788 by noted silversmith George Smith II. A beautiful example of late 18th-century silver, the tongs are decorated with elegant bright-cut engraving, a popular neoclassical style of the Georgian period. The delicate hand-chased patterns of leaves and geometric borders display both refinement and precision, reflecting the artistry and craftsmanship for which Smith was well regarded.

The tongs terminate in classic shell-form grips, designed for serving sugar cubes with grace and ease during tea service. Hallmarked to the interior, they attest to their authenticity and sterling quality.

These early George III sterling sugar tongs not only embody the sophistication of Georgian dining traditions but also remain a highly collectible piece of English silver. Their timeless design, excellent condition, and fine maker’s mark make them a desirable addition for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
